For the first time since graduating from NAIT, I had the opportunity to photograph some professional grade cinnamon buns, and I am quite happy with the results! In this post I will discuss some elements that went into this minimalistic food photograph.

Layout
From the beginning, I knew I wanted a more subtle background to help the cinnamon bun stand out. That is why a black acrylic panel was used for the table, and the supporting cheese boards are a darker grey. These elements help the layout support the theme and look, without drawing attention away from the food.
Lighting
For surfaces such as a glazed cinnamon bun, the lighting must look good, even in the reflections. This is why I love to use large light sources like soft boxes. This allows the reflection of the light in the glaze to look even better, and more appealing for the viewer.
Thank you for reading!
Food photography is a great passion to pursue whenever I have spare time. After testing things out with this cinnamon bun, I have a feeling I will be doing more food photoshoots in the near future.
