Street photography is one of the first things that got me into photography. My favourite part of it is I never have to worry about pictures looking good or bad, it was just about taking pictures.

This photograph of Chris Hadfield was taken at the Jasper dark sky festival several years ago. I didn't fully understand how to use my camera settings at the time, so the images turned out looking nearly black. I saved them to my hard drive anyway, and it wasn't until a year later that I looked through the pictures again and turned up the brightness.
To my surprise, the pictures turned out looking great. This photo is by far one of my absolute favourites. The added film grain adds to the composition in a way I didn't expect. The sensor of my camera had produced a bunch of small white dots in the darkest area of the frame, making Chris look like he was walking out of space.
Chris was about to go on stage to speak to the crowd, and if you've ever seen Chris speak, you will know he is a very funny and energetic guy. That's why it was so nice to get this photograph of him. Even the most outgoing people in the space station need some time to themselves. It was a privilege to see him in person, and I hope I eventually have the chance to revisit the Jasper Dark Sky Festival. Who knows- maybe the next time I do street photography I could run into someone else special!
Thank you as always for reading. More blogs will be up in the next few weeks.
Have fun and stay safe!
