Being a photographer has the benefit of deciding the look of your work. In many cases, this is an overlooked aspect of any job that I feel more people should be talking about. Being a photographer feels like a luxury rather than a burden. This is why I am grateful to have it.

Photography in Edmonton

Edmonton is so unique in so many ways. Unlike larger cities and towns, Edmonton is the awkward middle child that hasn't been recognized. I am amazed at what I have seen coming out of the local photography community recently. Classmates from NAIT and seasoned photographers are always upping their game and coming up with new methods of lighting, posing, set design and editing. It's great that social media outlets and local magazines see creators do amazing work. PhotoED Magazine, Edify and InFocus are all great outlets to meet and discover creatives in the photography community.

What I'm all about

No matter who you are, there will always be a photographer that suits you best. It may be someone like me who is more of a specialist in portraiture and product photography, or it could be a jack of all trades that can do anything you throw at them. It really is amazing that you can pick from almost any photography style and know that you'll get what you need. This means that even if my style doesn't suit you, I will probably know a photographer that can help! Full freedom over your choice of photographer.

Thinking outside the box

Most of photography is knowing the fundamentals in and out, then immediately throwing them out the window. If you have ever been on a photography set, you will know that things go wrong all the time. Lights go out, things catch on fire, gear falls over. Adapting quickly and efficiently is the key. The goal is to fix problems as fast as possible to get that one amazing image, like using a broom and duct tape to mount a light to the ceiling. Ridiculous? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. Whatever it takes to get the job done, I am ready to do it. I am happy to come home with crazy stories and great memories I have had with the team.

Thank you for reading! Hopefully I'll be able to get a new blog out in the next week or so for the three people that are reading this! It is currently November 7th, 2020 so we are still in the middle of the Covid pandemic. I wish everyone well, and make sure to stay safe out there!
