Today, I will be sharing with you how I use advanced lighting to bring a product to life!

For this product, I knew I wanted to add a creative touch. To make a product photograph stand out from the crowd, you need to find an element that enhances the image. I chose to use a colourful light painting, reflected in a cutout of black plexiglass.
Light painting is a technique used commonly by creative product photographers to give objects a flattering, soft lighting. In this photoshoot however, the light needed to show very little on the product, and more on the plexiglass itself. It took many failed attempts, but I found the perfect way to swing the light across the bottom left of the frame, and also have it shine on the underside of the product in a subtle way.

Once I figured out which light trail layout worked well, the product photograph was almost complete.
To add the finishing touch, I composited a soft gradient blue halo around the darkest part of the product to give it more shape in such a dark set. It is important to shoot "plates" like this, incase you are unable to capture something in-camera. The primary responsibility of a product photographer is to strike a balance between creative expression, and a professional image.
I love creating.

I strive to learn as much as I can from every shoot, and be open minded to new ideas. This opens the doors to photoshoots that stand out, and draw attention.
